Piazza Roma in Modena and a view of Palazzo Ducale on the right

Love in Modena

Although Mutina is tiny, I get lost every day. In my English mindset, it’s living in the moment. Every time you take a walk in Piazza Grande around the duomo of Modena, time stops.

You can daydream and look up to see the Ghirlandina that seems to be the savior. Take out your journal and start practicing languages– you hear people speaking English, Italian, Farsi, Arabic, Turkish and other languages.

As you hear all these conversations around you, you notice you’re surrounded by lots of pigeons. I start writing in my diary ???? , as I’m practicing Italian. As a bilingual Italian is still breathtaking to learn. However, as an *English teacher* who teaches in Modena, I had to learn basic Italian.

I came to this town to study Business seven years ago, and now I call it home. To me Modena is the heart of Emilia Romagna. It’s where balsamic vinegar, Ferrari, Pavarotti are born. The father of the town San Geminiamo saves the town and the people, as he did in war time. You see home is a state of mind -a feeling. And to me, Modena is a state of mind -a feeling of coffee in the air, opera in the house, arts on the wall and tortellini on Sunday.
